Screening and Awareness Camp: A Generational Impact

Five camps. Three villages. A generation protected.

Before our intervention, many communities in Madanpur, Kumarpur, and Rameswarpur had little to no understanding of Thalassemia — despite several individuals in each village suffering from the disease.

Through five intensive screening and awareness camps, we have tested almost all boys and girls below the age of thirty in these villages. More importantly, we have educated the community on the crucial difference between a Thalassemia carrier and a Thalassemia diseased person.

By identifying carriers and advising them on safe marriage practices, we are actively preventing the birth of new Thalassemia-diseased children. Today, we can proudly claim that the new generation in our locality is highly protected against this disease.

Our ongoing goal is to expand these camps to more distant villages until we achieve a completely Thalassemia-free society in Nadia District.

Restoring Sight: 15 Cataract Surgeries

Light returned to those who had lost it.

For many rural elderly in Madanpur, cataracts meant a slow, irreversible loss of independence — unable to see grandchildren clearly, navigate their homes safely, or continue the work they had done all their lives.

Through our free cataract surgery programme, we have successfully facilitated operations for 15 community members — fully funded, with transport arranged and post-operative care organised.

Each surgery represents not just restored sight, but restored dignity. We continue to identify candidates in our communities and are committed to expanding this programme.

Sunday Drawing Classes: Joy as Education

Every Sunday, 30+ children find art, food, and belonging.

It began simply: a room, some art supplies, and a few children curious enough to show up on a Sunday morning. We added free tiffins — because hungry children cannot concentrate — and within weeks, the room was full.

Today, our Sunday drawing classes draw 30+ regular learners from Madanpur and nearby areas. Children who might otherwise have no structured creative outlet are developing skills, confidence, and friendships.

Beyond art, these sessions have become a safe space — where children are listened to, celebrated, and given a glimpse of what is possible when someone invests in them.

Fighting Plastic: One Village at a Time

Community-wide campaigns changing everyday habits.

Single-use plastic is one of the most visible and damaging environmental threats in rural Nadia. Our anti-plastic campaigns have targeted Madanpur and surrounding villages — running awareness workshops in schools, organising cleanup drives, and distributing reusable alternatives.

We have also led tree plantation drives that have added hundreds of saplings to the local landscape, providing shade, improving air quality, and educating young people on the value of green cover.

Environmental change is slow — but community habits, once shifted, are durable. We are committed to the long game.
